In depth 2012

THE BEST PART OF TALONS IS BACK! I have to admit, after in-depth last year, this fall was depressing without having something to focus on. This year I’ve chosen to do rowing for in-depth. And by rowing i mean this rowing (faces included) not THIS rowing. I joined the inlet rowing club/Gleneagle rowing team this fall and ended up being really in love with the sport so…perfect in-depth! My dad rowed in college and high school and he has a single rowing skiff and also a rowing machine (erg), not to mention a 24/7 rowing tutor (dad isn’t my mentor, though). My actual mentor is my rowing coach and is a member of the SFU women’s rowing team.

As Leanne just whisper-yelled “THERE’S TECHNIQUE TO ROWING!?” Why yes, leanne, there is plenty of technique, just as much or more as any other sport. I just learned to row this fall, and I have a LOT to work on this spring with upcoming competitions. After it gets a little warmer I’ll be rowing on water 2 times a week in the Port Moody inlet. At home, I’ll be working out on the rowing machine 3 times a week. Yes, I fully expect a six pack by June. As far as competing, I’m not sure if i’ll be rowing in a double, quad, or eight yet. Maybe a mix. I’d like to become a good rower on all three. So far I’ve practiced in a quad (4 people) and a double (2 people). For in depth night, I’m planning on having some sort of video compilation of me/team rowing and possibly drag in the rowing machine to demonstrate erging (rowing machine-ing/on land rowing).
